Swing and miss

by Jeff McNeil

This past Sunday, Jenn and I went to over 6 Target stores attempting to find some color coordinated gifts for her girls.  It was one after another, mixed in with a stop at Bev-mo.  From Irvine, to Tustin then from Fullerton to Huntington Beach.  It was a long day but we found some pretty jewelry for her to wear on the wedding day.  We will continue to look for some pink or blue necklaces for Jenn.  Her sister, Sarah, has some she will view up in San Jose.  We used most of the remaining gift certificates from the proposal afternoon this last Sunday while running all over town, and even got some money back by returning some unnecessary items.  All in all a good day of errands, but man… where are those size 9 blue flip-flops from Target?

Spray Paint Fun

by Jenn

We have started to paint our centerpieces after weeks of work putting them together.  Only 9 are done, I think, which means 4 more to build and one of those is a monstrosity that will likely make itself the focal point of our wedding.

So… will you be at the blue upside down Leaning Tower of Pisa table or the pink Statue of Liberty?  And what else is there?  Something’s gotta remain a secret. =)

The search for Jeff’s wedding band

Robins Brothers

Robins Brothers

Our trip to Robins Brothers this last Sunday was an eye opener for me.  I knew there are plenty of different styles of rings for the grooms wedding band.  However I never knew some could shatter on impact.  Tungsten Carbide has been known to shatter under the proper heat and shock conditions.

100 days to go!?

by Jenn

Thanks to our registry countdown, I noticed we are almost to double digits.

I can’t believe we only have 100 days left till the wedding.  True, most of it is planned – but still!  I am super excited but nervous because I want everything to go right and its the little details that need to be put together with the help of all our friends.  The last big thing to do is submit the paperwork for liability insurance for the ceremony.  Please, no one get hurt though. =)  There are also big things to do like seating arrangements, etc – but of course not knowing who is coming, I can’t do that yet.  I do get to start planning the ceremony though, and making programs.  That’s the next exciting task for Jenn. =)  Wish me luck.

Yay, orange glow.

by Jenn

So, I hadn’t thought of this before now, but the votives arrived and I popped in some forever candles to check it out and Yay! Orange glowiness!  This will just add to the awesome color set up we are going to have.   Have I mentioned how much I love color?  And my mama may make me so happy by wearing a yellow dress.  It’ll be nice to have some yellow in there.  Oh, I did buy myself a little something yellow to wear, just to be a rebel and not match the scheme.  And yeah, we are throwing green in there because how can you not with foliage everywhere?  But it won’t be present anywhere else.  Now its almost time for the parties to start.  I love having excuses to celebrate and hang out with friends.

A week for relaxing

by Jeff McNeil
Frankie says Relax

Frankie says Relax

After two weeks of running around town, meetings, phone calls and bar code scanning, I am taking a break this week.  It was nice to have a long 3 day weekend from the 4th of July to kick it off.  We have the venue site, catering, ceremony site, officiant, photographer, DJ, lighting, cake, wedding dress, groom’s men, bride’s maids, hotel room, bride’s maids dresses, grooms men’s shirt & ties, flower girl, centerpieces and invitations.  It is a lot for 2 weeks of work.  I feel that we have been going full tilt and need a bit to decompress.  So this week Jenn and I are going to be catching up on our recorded programs. I will probably play some computer games much to the chagrin of Jenn.  But it is just how we relax at home, perhaps a Jacuzzi night and definitely some wine.  I feel we will dabble here and there in planning.  At present the hardest question is what to play as our cocktail music.

Bachelor Party Ideas

by Jeff McNeil
Giggity Giggity!

Giggity Giggity!

I have confirmed with my groomsmen that a trip to Las Vegas will be not on the list of possible places to have my bachelor party.  All well and good, since I went to Ryan to his party, and well… passed out at the club.  There will be no passing out of anyone at my bachelor party.  I want to enjoy it and want the other guys to enjoy it as well.  I have been looking around for ideas and have some I wanted to share before I asked for your ideas.

Obviously a strip club would be one fantastic idea, but which ones are good in OC?  I have only been to one in Vegas, the Palamino.  Let me know what you think and please keep comments PG-13 for the blog.

AZ River tubing

AZ River tubing

John has suggested a river tubing with a case of beer?  Anyone know where that happens in southern California?  I found a great place in Arizona, but nothing in so. Cal.

What about a day at the nail salon equivalent for men “Metro for Men.”  www.metroformen.com  It looks like an interesting place, however expensive.  I guess you pay for the machismo factor as part of it.  Then again maybe I am just cheap when it comes to my haircuts.

Another idea was to go to a sporting event like a baseball game or something. Or perhaps a pub crawl in Huntington, Newport or Fullerton.  All of these sound like fun to me.  Of course we would need to find a sober driver to either go with us or pick us up from the event.  There may be more than 4 of us in the bachelor party I feel.  Perhaps as many as 8 which would totally be fun.

So this is where I am asking those who read the website, please comment with your ideas on what to do for the bachelor party.  With so many typical things to do, what interesting new things can you think of or what different twists on old standards can you come up with?  Can we say private Jacuzzi party perhaps?

I now pronounce you Reverend Peters

by Jenn

This guy is cool!

Sunday at the fourth of July party we went to, I decided to ask a good friend to officiate our wedding.   A bit shocked at the question, Jon said yes after a few moments of speechlessness. =)  We both think it will be great having Jon up there with us.  He is a great friend with an ability to engage a crowd with his awesome personality and commanding voice.  Thanks Jon!

DJ & Lighting company picked

Uplighting Example

Up-lighting Example

This Saturday Jenn and I went to meet with Gil from A Night to Remember Events.  He talked with us at length about out wedding reception and the type of vendors we wanted to have put it on.  We hired the best at Salt Creek Grille, we have an awesome photographer Scott Land and now we need a kick ass MC.  After talking with many people online, over the phone and in person, we decided that Gil was the best person to coordinate the night for us with music and an event timeline.  He is going to have his professional guys come out with a truck filled with lighting equipment and setup a great lighting scheme for us.  He is also going to have one of his trusted DJs MC the event and from everything that we talked about this weekend is true, the event will be awesome.  I can’t wait to see what Gill is able to do with the venue.  I felt in good hands when we left the consult and had the signed paperwork.  It was a bit pricier then I had imagined, but I would rather have it done right than try to save money by going with a fly by night operator.  His website doesn’t have much on it, but you can see the experience this guy and his company have. www.antrevents.com With this being the last big vendor to purchase, Jenn and I are in need of some good relaxation time.

I love free gifties!

Heart Champagne Flutes

Heart Champagne Flutes

Yesterday Jenn and I went to Crate and Barrel to do our wedding registry.  We were given the bar code scanner and immediately went to work.  We love bar code scanning.  There is so much great stuff at Crate and Barrel I wish I could redo the entire home in the things from there.  Before I get too far along that thought, I need to figure out what am I going to do with the things i already love and use.  Anyway, I had a great time there and found the wine fridge that Bed Bath and Beyond did not have.  There were 2 great moments at the store, the first was when the attendant commented on my Jeff Dunham shirt and we hit it off.  It was awesome to find another fan and it was even better when he handed us our free gift and said “Here is your gift… on a stick” I laughed out loud.  John was great, he makes me want to go back there.  His “gift on a stick” comment leads me to the 2nd great thing that happened. We got free champagne flues!  Two flutes with a heart on the top of them.  I know the picture isn’t all that great, I will try to find a better one.  Jenn and I were so excited we opened them in the car.

New consolidated information page in the menu bar

So that you don’t have to continue to sift through blogs, I have created a page called “Official Wedding Info” for you to check for things like event details, flight choices and lodging options.

Enjoy!  Let me know if you feel there needs to be any other info.

Soon to come:  Maps to the ceremony site, maps to the reception site and maps to get back onto the 5 Freeway following the reception.

My Half of the Bridal Party

So the colors are not on the right dresses and the girls look nothing like they are supposed to, but this is kind of how my half of the bridal party will look =)

Short and sweet – Ceremony Details

by Jeff McNeil
No Candles

No Candles

Over the past few days as Jenn and I have been reviewing our wedding ceremony plans we have come up with some great ideas.  First of all we have decided not to have the two candles become one flame ceremony.  We have been to several weddings where the wind did not make for such a great mid-ceremony combination of two flames into one.  Often that mid-ceremony act took away from the flow of the moment. It also never provided itself with terrific photos since they bride and groom always faced forward and blocked the action from view.

Another thought we had was that we were going to save setup time and cost by having most attendants of the ceremony stand instead of sit.  We appreciate short wedding ceremonies, so why not have ours be appreciated as well.  There will be a few chairs for those for which standing for 15 minutes may be an issue.

Pink Rose Petals

Pink Rose Petals

We have decided that due to the decision on chairs, we would need an alternative form of aisle for Jenn to walk down.  We have settled on a mound of rose petals on either side.  Yes a mound, not just a few sprinkled but a mound of rose petals.  We have also batted around the idea of tossing rose petals instead of rice, bubbles or butterflies.  This is still “up in the air” (Jenn laughed at this one) 🙂
